arteemoji · Manifesto

The emotional alphabet of the digital age.

❤️🙂👁️🕯️🌀

I look for the most complex thing beneath the simplest: how, and through which symbols, we express emotion in the digital age.

An emoji often lives on screen for less than a second. It is sent, seen, forgotten. Yet the same sign sometimes stands in for a sentence that could not be said, a suppressed emotion, a personal memory. I give it weight again inside the painting: what is fast becomes slow, what appears simple becomes deep.

arteemoji is a language I’ve been developing since 2016. Some call it a movement; for me it is first a stance: to treat the emoji not as décor but as subject — to turn the everyday language of mass communication into a field of artistic inquiry.

Manifesto

I turn a sign that millions send in a second into a single work.

A sign we consume in a second can live for hours.

I slow down what is fast, and deepen what looks simple.

I give the digital a personal surface.

This is not a subject — it is a position.

Press Release · 2026

A new art movement is born.

The emotional alphabet of the digital age has given birth to a new contemporary art movement: arteemoji.

İstanbul-based artist Didem Medine İnci has lifted the emoji out of decoration and into the field of contemporary art. arteemoji is not a project — it is a movement, a position, the pop art of the digital age.

Where Warhol defined Pop Art by lifting Campbell’s soup cans onto the gallery wall, Didem Medine İnci performs the equivalent cultural gesture for the digital age. Her subject is no longer the object of mass consumption, but the symbol of mass communication. The emoji — today’s shared emotional alphabet.
